Blonde or Brunette... that is the question

This weeks poll is simple... is Ginger more lovely as a blonde bombshell, or a sultry brunette.

FOr the purposes of simplicity I'm ignoring the fact that "technically" she's a redehead in some movies (eg. Swingtime) or theat she got old and went white (coz who's going to vote for that). We're talking black and white screen godess, do we prefer blonde or brunette.

I decided I wouldn't post the option of both, so a decision is necessary.... and tell us why... we all want to know why you chose what you chose!

Personally, I am undecided... so here arre some pictures to help me, and the rest of you, to decide....

Happy pondering!
Blonde

Brunette

Have fun choosing.... I can't decide :S

  1. I picked blonde.. for some reason I just think her face fits with blonde hair better. It's hard to explain :)

  2. After a lot of connsideration, I also voted blonde... its how light her eyes are and the hair just makes them shine I think. Also... while some of her best films are brunette... most of my favourites are blonde :)

  3. I had to go with the blonde (as much as I love brunette)! She just always seems more witty in blonde hair (don't ask me why)!

  4. Well, just to make it interesting - I went with 'brunette'... after the dissertation I did last night concerning the topic, I guess the brunette Ginger is just a bit more 'recent' in my memory...and, it's just interesting that 'brunette' correlated with her 'peak' as a 'solo' star, both in popularity and critically. Blonde Ginger is throughout the 'Ginger/Fred' series, as well as her stuff in the 50's, and VERY hard not to go with. As a total contradiction to this vote, just check out the Gingerology header pix, which is one of my favorites...it is different, and probably does not really 'capture the essence' of Ginger, but, those eyes are the kicker...AAAND, of course, she is VERY blonde in it. So, there you go.
Man....sometimes those 'short' questions are the toughest!!!

  5. I completely agree with you, Beth. Even though my favorite Ginger movie is "The Major and the Minor", I always think of her as a blonde bombshell. I often forget about the brunette years.

  7. Oh, undoubtedly blonde. Who knows why...she's just ten times more interesting with blonde hair, though admittedly I do kind of like her in Kitty Foyle (at the same time, she's kind of supposed to be "everywoman" there isn't she?).

  8. I think for me also... all my favourite pictures are blonde, especially the first on in this post, my blog header and the one in sepia I posted a while back. xx

  9. Blonde. I've always liked blonde. I associate her 30s career with blonde hair. And blonde is more interesting because it's a hair colour I could never pull off.

  11. ...Wow - this is a total BLOWOUT!!! Glad there wasn't any money riding on this or anything... :-O
Well, it's pretty hard to argue that blonde is the preferred mode of Ginger... and that is fine with me! In fact, I have given 'equal time' to "VKM Blonde" over on Gingerology - please check it out - hopefully will be of interest...
BTW - Beth, you HAD to bring up the 'sepia' pic, didn't you? :-P ...talk about an argument against the 'brunette' defense....case closed!

  13. Blonde. Though the pictures you posted made it very, very hard to choose.

  14. ...et tu, Juliette? Well, at least it wasn't a 'shutout' for VKM Brunette... but dang near it!
BTW - Artman and Lauren - that first pic is one of my faves of 'Young Ginger', too - there are a couple of 'poses' from that 'photo shoot' or whatever... and in another one she is smiling so cute, it hurts! Wish I could post it here...well, heck, I will just post it over on Gingerology...

  15. Haha, yes indeed. Though that sixth picture made it quite the difficult choice.

  16. ...The 'straw hat'? Yes that was a new one to me, but is another VERY fine argument for the 'brunette' side of things...

  17. Brunette. She looked her absolute best in 1942, as in "The Major and the Minor". Although a little credit might have to do with the hair style, in addition to the flattering color.
